MG MGF Technical - 72 days later and get

The car back hopefully for good.

After all my eletrical problems I have at last got the car back with new engine bay and main wirelooms, new ecu and a new catalic converter.

However the cause has never been found, the garage reckon that something went through the whole car taking the wire looms with them and eventually blowing up the ECU.

Thingers crossed I don't need to visit a garage again until March for its MOT.

Good luck Tom - shame there is no conclusion on the cause. It must make you feel a little wary.

>> something went through the whole car <<

are they suggesting the cause could be paranormal?

i've heard worse ettempts to explain this problem

come to think of it I did see some flashing lights in the sky when this happened to my F.

maybe aliens are conducting some experiments on our Earth Ignition Timing.....

I can only say what the dealer said but hopefully this is the end of my problem.

One thing I have been thinking could it be my mobile phone which normally lives on the small pen shelf below the heater controls, when ever it rings the stereo crackles and it does not matter if I am listening to the radio or CD's. Maybe it has fried the wires, this is just something I thought could kill wires?

Has your car been fixed yet if so what was the verdict?

No tom, the noise is the amplifier picking up really tiny signals caused by the phone and errm amplifiying them. Should not cause any trouble with the ECU's and definatly wont cause trouble with the wires.

Sorry Tom, my sarcasm was directed at the dealers not you : )

I'm in dispute with my dealer at the moment. I refuse to pay for their experiments on my car. After my first visit they said it was fixed so I paid. After my second visit they again said it was fixed so I paid. Since then they've changed the ignition coil and the original fault is STILL there.

Trading Standards have suggested I write to complain. They say that if I explained the fault from the outset and the dealer claimed to have fixed it AND i paid, then I have a right to expect the fault to have been fixed. It clearly hasn't been.

Got to wait and see now. They have until next Wednesday to reply.

My garage in the end only charged for the main wireloom suppling and fitting on the last visit although it was at the garage 6 weeks. The ECU I will hope my warranty will pay and the garage/MGR paid for the cat with goodwill but still left me with a repair bill approx £2000 for everything but it was spread over 2-3 months.

Only time will tell if it has actually fixed the problem.

Tom,

Ouch! Hope they offered you a seat before delivering the bill. And still no diagnosis on the cause! Well, hope you don't have to visit the garage again for a good long while, and the problem has been resolved. Wishing you many thousands of miles of trouble free motoring from here on in.
