MG MGF Technical - More alarm troubles.......
For the last couple of months, it happened a few times that the alarm went of for no reason. It stopped after a few minutes. What could cause this & what may be the solution? Thanks for your help! |

It could be a number of things, firstly Is your phone in the car (it will set the alarm off) How old is the car/ have you seen any other suspect behaviour, this is commonly seen when the bootlock wireing or the door locks 'trick' the alarm and tell it a door or the boot is open. Look firstly at the wireing on the boot hinge- failing that you could take it to a dealer who should be able to tell you what set the alarm off. Will |

The car is from 1996 and I haven;t noticed any suspected behaviour. Although, the battery waas replaced some days ago.. |

hmmn, How often does this happen? a few times a month... could you live with no central locking for a month? if so then take the drivers door apart and disconnect the connectors from the door mech- if this cures the problem then you need a new mech, try with the passanger side as well. The units are 'sealed' and contain microswitches which are not, unfortunatly the 'sealent' gives out over time and the microswitch's rust internally. See Dieters page for my pics. Alternativly take the door trim apart and take out the mech, dissambal and look for tell tale signed like green rust on the electrics- a dead giveaway that the unit is either faulty or on the way out. indeed, it happens a few times per month... I'll go with your advice and find out if the problem is caused by the connectores. thanks, Will! |

The MGF alarm is very sensitive to microwaves or any broadband UHF signals. A mobile phone left in the central cubby will set it off, as will microwave ovens within a few metres. I would imagine radar would too. Perhaps this is the problem Steve |
